4 Must-Have Monochrome Looks For 2020

by Adam Fletcher, Copywriter

We might only be two weeks into the new year, but the new collections are already starting to arrive in abundance – and they’re bringing a whole lot of looks and key pieces you’ll love along with them.

Let’s turn our attention to this year’s latest monochrome styles. For 2020, fashion’s still focusing the same black-and-white tones that we all know and love, but it’s also becoming super-vivid, thanks to updated, graphic prints. Expect mark-making animal patterns on midi skirts, enlarged polka dots across puff-sleeve mini dresses, and many more monochromatic prints and styles.

Another new trend to follow is on the horizon, too. Not only is it rumoured to be BIG for the seasons to come, but it’s also one of our favourite ways to channel the monochrome look: the poplin dress. Confused? Don’t be. Just ensure that the next dress you invest in is woven from a thicker cotton fabric.

If you’re looking for easy ways to make these two trends work for you, call off the search. Here, we break down what these two key trends are about and round-up our four favourite looks…

1. Smarten Up Your Mom Jeans With A Poplin Shirt

For many of us, hearing that the classic mom jean has worked its way into our 9-to-5 wardrobe might be surprising news. But, with its cinched waist and tapered leg we can see exactly why it’s a soon-to-be workwear favourite. To style, half-tuck your shirt and add suede-look heels.

2. Dress Updates With Polka Dot Prints

Romance is going to be a recurring theme throughout 2020 – especially when it comes to our favourite going-out dresses. This season, fashion couldn’t help but fall in love with voluminous sleeves, polka dot prints, and pretty belted waists all over again. And it seems that fashion’s not the only one.

3. Cosy In A Knitted Jumper And Midi

January’s knit to know is the ribbed jumper. Made with slightly more room than other knitted tops, it’s an easy go-to for pairing with a loose-fit midi skirt. Plus, while this look is perfect curling up on the sofa, it can also be paired with mock-croc boots and a smart coat during the day.

4. Go All-Black With A Poplin Dress And Boots

Every year has that dress and, for 2020, we’ve got a feeling that it’s about to be the puff-sleeve midi dress. Featuring higher tiers and a slightly longer length than before, this version is a fresh take on the look. Wear with chunky boots and patterned or plain tights.
